Whether you're re-decorating your whole house, or just re-decorating your children's rooms or bathrooms, adding a kids rug can make the room look special and different. There are many different varieties out there to choose from, along with many different textures. There are also many different shapes and lengths to choose from. You will want to take into consideration what kinds of colors you will be doing the room in, as well as what type of bedding, furniture and curtains you will be choosing so that the ultimate result is them complimenting each other and adding a good over-all look to your kids' room.

Let's talk about kids rugs for a nursery. If the flooring is hard wood, you might want to invest in a larger size kids rug. Usually these are square or oval shaped. If you're going for a gender neutral look, consider getting a rug in a yellow or green background. Some great choices for gender neutral themes are an ABC's theme, animals, duckies, a jungle theme, American theme or even an ocean theme. You can find some great ABC rugs in different stores, usually they are brighter in color with dark blues or reds. If you're going with a duckie theme, you can opt for a plain yellow rug, or you can find some with ducks on them. Sometimes you can find rugs that are specifically made for your bedding choice at the same store you get the bedding from. An American theme is easy because many stores sell beautiful rugs in red and navy blue. You should also consider looking online for something specific.

If you're looking for a kids' rug for a toddlers' room (toddler rugs), you can go with more themes. If your toddler has a favorite movie, or cartoon, you can look for a specialty rug with its' image on it. Some popular toddler themes could also include frogs, princesses, pirate, and spaceships. Some stores even sell rugs that have a specific shape such as a kids' rug in the shape of a rocket ship or a castle, which would be great for a princess theme. Another option for little boys is a larger rug that is designed to look like a race track. Bears are another popular kids' theme. This is a fun look because the rugs can come shaped like a bear, or decorated to look like a log cabin with a nice wilderness theme. This type of kids' rug is great for them to not only decorate a room but also to play with. Some of the rugs are smaller so you might want to buy two of them if you're covering a particularly large room. There are also some educational rugs you can choose from that show things such as the different seasons, different colors, ABC's, and their numbers. These are great for pre-schools as well or even kindergarten and early elementary classes.

Pre-teens can be harder to look for, but it's still possible to find kids rugs that even they will like. Being at this picky age, they are liable to not like much a parent picks out for them. You will want to try some abstract designs on the rugs, like different bright colored squares or different bright colored polka dots. This can depend on the type of carpet. If the child has a bright comforter and other brightly colored accessories, you may just want to go with a lighter colored rug. Some stores sell matching bedding and rug sets so you can try taking your pre-teen along for the shopping trip to let them pick it out. If you have a pre-teen girl they sell some neat looking bright pink, purple and even green shag rugs. These look neat with a satin bedspread in a similar or lighter color. If you're shopping for a pre-teen or teenage boy, you can try looking for a kids' rug in a plain plaid look. Most teenagers are fairly messy and have lots of company so you will want to invest in a nice sturdy kids' rug to compliment their room.

If you're looking to decorate a kids' bathroom, you probably have a specific theme picked out. Some popular themes for kid's bathrooms are rubber duckies and frogs. If you look in a store in the bath section, you will probably be able to find accent rugs to match your specific theme.

As far as prices go, it depends upon where you go to shop for your kids rugs. You can find some great deals at discount stores or you can find a good deal online on places that overstocked on certain types or styles of rugs. How much you spend will also depend on what size of kids' rug you are buying. If you're buying a larger, higher quality kids' rug, you can spend up to a thousand dollars if not more. It's always advised to shop around so you are able to find exactly what you need. A good resource I've found on rugs is called the Rug Blog.
